Liposuction Facts and FAQs in Charlotte, NC
Liposuction was first used by European doctors in the late 1960s. Over the years, techniques and technologies have improved significantly, making liposuction the most-requested cosmetic procedure in the United States, accounting for over 1.2 million procedures in 2011.
Can liposuction be used for weight loss?
No, liposuction is not intended for weight loss. Liposuction is an effective treatment for areas that have fatty deposits that are resistant to proper diet and exercise, such as the abdomen, buttocks, and thighs.
Will liposuction eliminate my cellulite?
Liposuction is not an effective treatment for cellulite. Cellulite is caused by fatty deposits poking through connective tissue. As a result, cellulite treatment requires different techniques than liposuction.
Why is liposuction performed in conjunction with other procedures?
Dr. Pratt may recommend liposuction in conjunction with other procedures to further improve the appearance of the treatment area or other areas of your body that do not require extensive surgery. Additionally, liposuction offers a much greater ability to control the amount and location of fat that is removed. Doing the same level of correction with surgery may be difficult and too extreme for the patient’s needs.
Will I regain the fat after my liposuction?
The fat that you currently have is eliminated with liposuction. You may, however, develop new fat without proper diet and exercise. Other factors may also cause fat to grow in the treatment area, such as hormonal changes, pregnancy, certain medications, and lifestyle changes.
