Fat can be harvested from any place where corpulent tissue is found but the most common donor spots are the flanks, the outer legs and the upper and outer buttocks. Planting fat cells from those areas will cause your derriere to look like it has been lifted up and reshaped to be more curvaceous. Additionally, if you have fat in certain areas of your gluteal area that is not complimentary, this fat can be suctioned to create more contour during the procedure.
Realistic expectations are important to this procedure. After the procedure, the buttocks will swell somewhat and then subside. Often, patients think all the transferred fat has gone away but actually, it is the swelling that has subsided. We believe that it takes about three months before we can get a final resolution on how much fat actually remains. We tell our patients that the appearance you have after 3 months is what we consider to be the final result. It is also important to know that not all of the fat will “take” or remain. Because fat is a natural substance of your own body, some of it may be metabolized as normal fat would. Given correct procedure and the appropriate candidate, the majority of patients require 1 to 2 visits to gain the permanent effect they are looking for.
Although many may offer this procedure, its successful outcome is dependent on the skill of the surgeon. Dr. Pratt, who has been specialty trained in this area, will work with you to achieve your desired outcome and will advise you on which procedure is right for you.
