altrisha - will some saline fluid in the breast implant evaporate inside the body over time?I heard you lose about 10 percent of fluid over time.Do you suggest saline or silicone implants for replacement after a staph infection from breast implants. Thanks

"Yes, saline implants do lose a nominal amount of volume over time via evaporation. Over a ten year period, you will lose an average of 10% of the initial fill volume. More importantly, saline implants are prone to deflation, typically due to mechanical failure of shell or valve structure. 1% of saline implants placed will deflate each year. That being said, saline implants are still a viable and cheaper option for breast augmentation or reconstruction. As for which implant is preferable, gel and saline implants are interchangeable in terms of safety. They are both constructed from the same silicone-based shell and will not effect your clinical outcome. My professional bias at this point tilts towards the new memory gel implants. They are much more natural feeling, especially for women starting without much breast tissue."
